Bunning it Up

In the beginning of the summer, I experimented with buns:)) Here are some of the looks I came up with. Buns are SUPER easy to do very low manipulative and CUTE, but if you Bun often try to place the bun in a different spot ever so often and not to bun too tight to protect edges.!

I achieved this bun with NO added hair on an old braidout, I rolled and tucked the hair under to make it a bun.
Top of a bun with hair added in the middle
Simple easy WET bun method i did to retain moisture.
Favorite bunning technique. The Roll n tuck under bun .
Faux bun: with Kanekelon hair rolled into a big ball, placed in center of ponytail, hair wet and  pulled on top on the faux bun secured with bobby pins.

Finally Length check time.

                                   LENGTH CHECK
July 2012 length
Here is my first Official length check...one year of growth i began my growth journey last year July 2011 with chin length hair. In the video Make sure you remember  my hair are in twists so of course you're not going to get the full length it ll seem like I'm pulling my ends to make it look longer BUT I am not HONESTLY, my hair are in twists so some parts will be more dense then others. but where my fingers usually stop is where my hair is as far as length again remember my hair is in twists so I wont be giving FULL length. But anyway IM HAPPY:) its grown A LOT.! My next Length check will not be until January 2013... so be on the look out. Also  please support the YouTube page if you want to see more videos.

SWITCHING IT UP!

I ALWAYS wear a SIDE part, I really don't know why but I am quite sure that it is because when my hair is straight I wear a side part with the hair falling over my left eye lol. So naturally it is what I am used to wearing, I hope nobody else has this weird habit going on because with natural hair if you consistently do the same thing you will become BORED and uninspired trust me I know I'm going through this phase now because I wear wash n go's all the time which I do because it helps my moisture retention which of course leads to length retention and I have not quite got into the habit of protective styling probably because I really like wearing my curly fro and personally protective styling can become a little plain however, every once in a while I will twist it up and out of the way to preserve and give my ends a little protection.

Lets Jam Custard

I picked up some "Lets Jam Custard" from Walgreens just to see what all the hype was about. I applied it after i watched a tutorial on (WWW.MAHOGANYCURLS.COM) the application was one like applying  conditioner as a leave in.I only used this one product with no conditioner after my co-wash i washed most if not all of the conditioner out because i wanted to make sure the product did as it says.HONESTLY I loved it, it's Curly Girl friendly& cheaper than most natural hair custards!! It was $ 3.49 at my local Walgreens!
dried hair,shrinkage
my definition after the product was 80% dry

After a whole day curls still defined&moisturized in 101 degree summer heat&humidity
Happy with the results.

Wash n Go

This is my hair after I've twisted it with tresemme nourishing moisture conditioner.
For my over night wash n go, I cowash in the shower & finger detangle with conditioner, then twist my hair& secure my roots with bobby pins.I spray with a leave in conditioner mix& take down the twists& separate them, sometime they may be moist but that's alright!
When I do this method my hair does NOT take the formation of twists which I love, I like MY curl pattern, I try not to alter it with twist outs& braid outs, even bantu knots.when I separate the twists my natural curls pop back, the purpose of this method is to detangle my hair& let it dry but still achieving a wash n go.just dry!!!:)) lol so try it.& I bobby pin my roots to prevent shrinkage in my twists!

Trim /Clip your Ends!!!

This is a photo of just hair that I trimmed from my hair, of course not all of it, but if you look closely you can see I trimmed my hair WET &while it was CURLY I put my hair in about 20 sections/ twists and conditioned& then trimmed...my hair except I do not trim my hair as you would someone relaxed I twist my curls around my finger so that they form ringlets& begin snipping away at the ends of the ringlets...I have NATURAL...Curly hair it must be treated, and taken care differently curly hair is fragile and must be handled with CARE...if you're natural with curly hair you DO NOT HAVE TO STRAIGHTEN YOUR HAIR TO GET YOUR ENDS CLIPPED/TRIMMED it's better if you do it curly..I trim this way because it's easier, more convenient for me and has worked, with this method I don't take off too much hair and those raggedy ends get snipped right out of the way. At times people get clipped& Trimmed confused, but they are similar but some use them in different content,  I feel trimming& clipping is about the same except some relaxed people get their ends clipped "even"...with curly hair "even" doesn't really matter because our curls are wild and none are uniform& the same, or grow evenly, so us naturals usually trim our ends just for the health of our hair, not so much to "even"it out....Nonetheless whether you're straight& natural, straight and relaxed, or curly& natural trimming ends are important! TIP: After you trim, SEAL your ends with an oil just to nourish them you will see,an amazing difference before&after.
Trimming ends are vital for hair health, the more you nourish& take care of your hair the less frequent these trimmings will be necessary!

Curly Girl method

MY ROUTINE!Just in case...you aren't sure of what the Curly Girl/Conditioner only method is...basically Curly Girl and Conditioner only are one in the same but this is my understanding and how I DO the CURLY GIRL/CONDITIONER ONLY METHOD!
Alright so basically here is the method and what it means, and why it is beneficial to girls with CURLY HAIR (thus the name curly girl method) It is really just Conditioner Only, and it is a method of cleansing your hair in such a way as to retain and impart as much moisture as possible. Conditioner CAN be used to CLEAN hair, so many people think only shampoo cleanses which is completely false, conditioners work well with CURLY hair, i personally think the CG and Conditioner only method work best for people in the 3 category of hair, I'm a 3c and it works perfectly for me, I saw results after the first wash, Now I DECIDED to go Cg and CONDITIONER only because I'm on a growth challenge, and moisture retention will help in length retention which is my goal!...also because my hair is curly and i just got tired of it being a big frizz ball, CG/Co-washing helped me and my hair understand each other, my curls just needed some TLC and now Im going to give them just that!Honestly speaking you don’t need to wash your hair daily, and you don’t need to use harsh cleansers and sulfates to clean your scalp and hair.YOU SHOULD CO-WASH IF: you have a sensitive scalp and could or is allergic to sulfates, and if you have curly hair its also for people with extremely dry and fragile hair, and for people who are looking to GROW their HAIR LONG!!!....yes that's right to GROW HAIR LONG!!!!
Best part is... co-wash conditioners are CHEAP!!! lol you can use vo5...suave, herbal essences, I choose to use SUAVE and Herbal Essences Hello Hydration because these work for MY hair, research and try and figure out what works best for your curls.!
HOW TO:
-wet your hair with warm or cool water
-apply conditioner to scalp ( I pour conditioner in palm rub on finger tips like lotion and then massage into scalp for even distribution)
-massage your scalp and apply conditioner to hair, gently rubbing in paying attention to each clump of curls.
-NURTURE your ends, pay attention to your ends!REMEMBER!!the healthier your hair the less trims you'll need the longer your hair will grow.!
-rinse with cool water OR for the Conditioner only Co-WASH N GO rinse with cool water and REAPPLY some conditioner for curl definition.!
THIS WILL TAKE TIME, NOT EVERYONE'S RESULTS WILL APPEAR OVERNIGHT...BE PATIENT IT MIGHT TAKE UP TO A MONTH.BUT STICK IT OUT FOR MOISTURIZED HAIR!
MAJOR SHRINKAGE BECAUSE MY CURLS ARE SO DEFINED HAHA LOL!!!
freshly washed with suave conditioner MUCH more defined curls!
-We will be on this journey together.

Curly Girl Routine

I began the Curly Girl method today :) and finger coiled my hair...for the first time.
POSTING results in the a.m :)

Curly Girl Method...

CURLY GIRL METHOD!!!!!!!
Things You'll Need
  • Curly hair
  • Hair gel
  • Leave-in cream
  • Wide-toothed comb
  • Old t-shirt, microfiber towel, or paper towels
Steps
  1. Clarify AND CLEAN with a sulfate shampoo before beginning. This will cleanse your hair of any silicones--ingredients in some hair products that are not water soluble.
  2. MAKE SURE HAIR IS HEALTHY AND NO DEAD OR DAMAGED ENDS EXIST.
  3. USE a wide tooth comb!
  4. Don’t shampoo your hair. Most shampoos contain drying sulfates that are very damaging for curly hair They make curly hair frizzy and uncooperative. Using conditioner in place of shampoo will cleanse the hair just as effectively without stripping it of moisture.
  5. WASH with conditioner, wash scalp with conditioner gently message and loosen dirt with fingertips
  6. Distribute conditioner throughout all of your hair and untangle gently. Use your hands or a wide-toothed comb. Start by untangling bottom sections of your hair and then gradually move upwards. Let the conditioner sit in your hair for five minutes or so for extra moisture. You also may want to part your hair at this point with a comb. Part your hair to the side to prevent "triangle-shaped" hair.
  7. Do the final rinse of your hair with cool or cold water. This will decrease frizz and add shine. Leave some conditioner in your hair, especially in dry sections like the ends. It is fine to run your fingers through your hair gently, but do not comb your hair after this point.
  8. Apply products to your hair. Do it while it is soaking wet if you have curlier hair, but wait five minutes or so if you have medium to wavy curly hair. Put product in your hands and rub them together to emulsify. Then, smooth or rake the product into your hair by sections. A common method is to begin with a leave-in cream or conditioner to decrease frizz and then follow with a gel for hold and definition.
  9. Gently scrunch your hair with a t-shirt, paper towels, or a micro-fiber towel to remove excess moisture, as a generic terrycloth towel will make your hair frizzy. You may wish to finger shape your curls at this time instead. Next, wait five or so minutes so the hair can permanently assume its current shape.
  10. Dry your hair. Air drying is the easiest and gentlest way to dry your hair.
Give your hair time to get used to the routine, it might take a couple weeks.
